Galanthus ’Dionysus’

Galanthus ’Dionysus’ – dubbelblommande snödroppe, en av de så kallade »Greatorex Doubles«, 3 st./65:-

Så här skriver Naomi Slade om »Greatorex Doubles« i The Plant Lover’s Guide to Snowdrops:

Galanthus nivalis f. pleniflorus ’Flore Pleno’ does not produce seeds, but its anthers do produce fertile pollen, which was used by Heyrick A. Greatorex in the mid-20th century to produce the first hybrid double snowdrops. He crossed ’Flore Pleno’ (the only double snowdrop then widely available) with G. plicatus to produce an exciting plethora of offspring, which he gave either classical names, such as Dionysus and Poseidon, or names of female characters in Shakespeare’s plays, such as Cordelia, Desdemona, and Ophelia.
